Эта точка зрения не имеет ничего общего с идеями
ограничения и обогащения опыта, которые носят в высшей
степени пассивный характер. С практической точки зре-
ния руководящая мысль нашего анализа процесса усвое-
ния навыков сводится к тому, что ребенку необходимо соз-
давать возможности для начала и продолжения действия,
поощряя и поддерживая его инициативу и облегчая
ту специфическую форму обратной связи от окружающей
среды, которая обеспечивает получение знаний о резуль-
татах.
В другой работе [7] я отмечал, что дефекты в куль-
турном развитии, возникающие в условиях постоян-
ной бедности, часто еще с ранних лет прививают ребенку
и воспитателям привычку отказываться от постанов-
ки целей (или их добровольно ограничивать), от мобили-
зации средств и отсрочки вознаграждения. В области
развития индивидов подобные явления широко распро-
странены, и есть основания полагать, что они возникают
еще на ранних этапах, если даже их обнаруживают
в результате последующей проверки. Бедность не всегда
создает условия, вызывающие у молодежи чувство бес-
силия и поражения, хотя в солидной работе М. Шоггена
и П. Шоггена [35] утверждается, что в семьях, страдающих
от экономической депрессии, дефицит средств, стимули-
рующих самостоятельность ребенка, наблюдается чаще.
В семьях со средним доходом выше процент случаев
столкновения с окружающими условиями, когда детям
приходится 1) получать или давать информацию, 2) осу-
ществлять более широкий контакт, 3) выполнять не-
которое обязательство по осуществлению определенного
действия, 4) принимать цели действующего лица и 5) по-
лучать или формулировать словесные сообщения. Наобо-
рот, для детей в семьях с низким доходом характерен
высокий процент случаев, когда они вынуждены 1) совер-
шать или прекращать какие-либо действия, 2) принимать
сигналы отрицательной обратной связи и запрещающие
обязательства, 3) использовать в общении сигналы или фи-

зический контакт и 4) находиться в конфликте с носителя-
ми соответствующих факторов окружающей среды и пере-
живать по отношению к ним отрицательные эмоции.
Дальнейшие исследования могут способствовать не
только экспериментальной проверке интересующих нас
факторов, определяющих способы усвоения навыков, но и
пониманию тех социально-экономических условий, кото-
рые способствуют или препятствуют этому процессу.
